The soundtrack will be available as a Special Edition with exclsuive bonus tracks and also come in a 2CD Standard Edition.

Along with the cover art, WaterTower Music also revealed that the 2CD soundtrack for The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey was recorded at Abbey Road studios by Academy Award® winner Howard Shore and the London Philharmonic Orchestra.

Neil Finn of Crowded House also contributed a new song called “Song of the Lonely Mountain”
In keeping with Lord of the Rings tradition, “Loneliness” will be the headline music for the first film in Peter Jackson’s The Hobbit trilogy.

“The adventure follows the journey of title character Bilbo Baggins, who is swept into an epic quest to reclaim the lost Dwarf Kingdom of Erebor from the fearsome dragon Smaug. Approached out of the blue by the wizard Gandalf the Grey, Bilbo finds himself joining a company of thirteen dwarves led by the legendary warrior, Thorin Oakenshield.

“Their journey will take them into the Wild; through treacherous lands swarming with Goblins and Orcs, deadly Wargs and Giant Spiders, Shapeshifters and Sorcerers.”

The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey hits theatres on December 14, 2012.
