The new S.H.I.E.L.D. television series from Marvel will begin filming the pilot in January 2013 with The Avengers director Joss Whedon behind the camera.
Marc Graser of Variety set off a Twitter frenzy on Monday when he tweeted to comic book fans that production on the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series will get underway in the new year. “Joss Whedon starts shooting Marvel’s new S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series in January,” Graser revealed on Twitter.
Although casting is still underway on the S.H.I.E.L.D. series, actress Ming-Na Wen will play Agent Melinda May and Clark Gregg will reprise his role as Agent Phil Coulson from The Avengers.
The five remaining roles of Skye, Agent Grant Ward, Agent Leo Fitz, Althea Rice, and Agent Jemma Simmons have yet to be cast.
Two months to cast five more roles? Hey, you have to trust Joss Whedon. Remember, he’s the one that put Sarah Michelle Gellar, David Boreanaz, James Marsters, Charisma Carpenter, Alyson Hannigan and more on the map with Buffy the Vampire Slayer.
Joss Whedon will direct the S.H.I.E.L.D. pilot and co-write alongside brother Jed Whedon and Maurissa Tancharoen.
In October, Joss Whedon and Marvel Studios president Kevin Fiege confirmed at New York Comic Con that Clark Gregg would return to the role of Agent Phil Coulson. Two weeks later it was confirmed that Ming-Na Wen will be in the S.H.I.E.L.D. TV series.
Who else do you think should be cast to round out the five remaining roles?
