Hunger Games star Jennifer Lawrence is the latest celebrity to speak out against the weight loss pressures women face to be rail-thin in Hollywood.

In the new issue of Elle Magazine, Jennifer Lawrence revealed that the entertainment industry in Hollywood considers her to be overweight. “In Hollywood, I’m considered a fat actress,” admitted the star of the upcoming Catching Fire sequel to The Hunger Games.

Remember, Lawrence is the young woman who climbed trees, dodged death, and sprinted through a forest in The Hunger Games. How could she ever be considered fat or anywhere near being out of shape?

Jennifer Lawrence also revealed that despite the Hollywood perception, she has a healthy appetite. “I eat like a caveman,” added Lawrence. “I’ll be the only actress who doesn’t have anorexia rumors.”

The Hunger Games tribute then went on to state that she’ll never starve herself for a movie role and set a bad example for young girls to do the same.

It’s an admirable stance for Jennifer Lawrence to take. Already an Oscar Nominee at 22 for her role in Winter’s Bone, Lawrence has two more Hollywood blockbusters in production, X-Men: Days of Future Past and The Hunger Games: Catching Fire. In each Lawrence portrays strong female characters that certainly carry over into everyday life.

On a similar weight loss note, Lady Gaga also revealed that her record label pressured her into dropping pounds after photos surfaced that showed gaga in a heavier light. Gaga fought back and her fans were outraged by her label’s demands.

So, will the Hollywood tide toward “thin” actresses ever turn?

How do you feel?

What do you think?

  • Personally, I prefer women with curves on them. Dunno why this Hollywood/Twiggy thing persists. However, there are safe health and beauty products and techniques to help actors meet the strict demands of Hollywood to be rail thin while not having to starve themselves. I used them to lose about 35 pounds, myself. With the kinds of resources available to Hollywood stars, it should be relatively easy to find them.
