Morgan Spurlock has been hired to direct the new One Direction 3D movie after Sony Pictures confirmed Spurlock for the musical docu-project this week.
One Direction will soon hit the big screen with Super Size Me filmmaker Morgan Spurlock behind the camera as director. The upcoming 3D film will offer fans a behind-the-scenes look at the life of One Direction boy banders Niall Horan, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne, Harry Styles and Louis Tomlinson.
The new One Direction 3D movie will be similar in format to Justin Bieber’s Never Say Never and Katy Perry’s Part of Me which showcased their rise to stardom combined with exclusive concert footage and backstage clips.
In an official statement, Morgan Spurlock shared his excitement about working with One Direction. “This is an incredible opportunity and an amazing moment in time for the band,” said Spurlock about the project. “To capture this journey and share it with audiences around the world will be an epic undertaking that I am proud to be a part of.”
Spurlock rose to fame as a filmmaker with the groundbreaking Super Size Me in which Spurlock ate McDonalds food for 30 days to show the impact of fast food on the body. Since then, Spurlock went on to make Where in the World is Osama Bin Laden? and Comic-Con Episode Four: A Fan’s Hope.
Along with Morgan Spurlock, One Direction creator Simon Cowell and producers Ben Winston and Adam Milano will oversee the production.
The news comes on the heels of One Direction releasing their sophomore album called Take Me Home.
The upcoming One Direction 3D film will be released on August 30, 2013.
