Lil Wayne to Retire After ‘Tha Carter V’

5 years ago by Nadya Vlassoff

Rapper Lil Wayne announced that he will retire from the studio after the release of Tha Carter V

Lil Wayne will retire from music and hang up his microphone after the future release of Tha Carter V, the award winning rapper’s upcoming 11th studio album.

On Wednesday of this week, Lil Wayne told MTV News that Tha Carter V will be his last album during an interview for the video release of “No Worries.”

Although Tha Carter V will be his swan song, Lil Wayne, aka Weezy, is still two albums away from retirement since I Am Not a Human Being II won’t be released until February 19, 2013. Despite the recent announcement, there’s been no word on when Tha Carter V will go wide to fans. Obviously it won’t be for some time.

So, what was behind Lil Wayne’s decision?

“Because I know y’all want me around for a little bit,” Weezy told MTV News, “and Carter V is my last album. Man, I’ve been rappin’ since I was 8 years old. I’m 30 now, man. That’s a long time, man.”

Beyond music, Lil Wayne has been focused on skateboarding and his TrukFit clothing line. When Lil Wayne hangs up his mic, he’ll say goodbye to a music career that artists rarely get to experience. Back in September of this year, Lil Wayne surpassed Elvis Presley as the male singer with the most entries on the Billboard Hot 100 chart with 109 songs.

What’s in store for Lil Wayne after Tha Carter V?

“My day job will probably be sports analyst,” Wayne added to MTV, “and I’ll skate all night instead of being in the studio all night.”

Along with TrukFit, Lil Wayne created several skate parks to help further the sport.

Lil Wayne bridged the gap between pop/rock and hip-hop music and has collaborated with a slew of top artists, including Juvenile, Destiny’s Child, T-Pain, Young Jeezy, Ludacris, Busta Rhymes, Big Boi, Fat Joe, Birdman, Rick Ross, Keri Hilson, Jay-Z, Kanye West, and of course, Cash Money Millionaires.

How do you feel about Lil Wayne hanging up the mic after Tha Carter V?

What do you think?

Lil Wayne stop lyn your goin to b connected to tha music. Industry. In sumway.

  • His last mixtape, which he gave away for free, was a dud. I think his voice sounds awesome and he can be one of the best rappers. I think he is too high and too cocky and has forgotten that you actually have to work hard at it.

PS – like with Jay Z, retirement won’t last long.

  • damnn, lil wayne is a badass rapper and regardless if he retires today or after his last album, he’ll still be loved and remembered for his music. damnn, wish I could see him in concert for the first and last time.
