Writer Jonathan Nolan recently shared his thoughts on the success of The Dark Knight Rises and seeing Batman in the upcoming Justice League movie.

In an exclusive interview with Empire Online, Jonathan Nolan, co-writer of The Dark Knight Rises and younger brother of director Christoper Nolan, opened up on a variety of topics related to the DC Comics universe, including th success of The Dark Knight sequel, the Bane prologue, casting Aidan Gillen of The Wire, and the upcoming Justice League movie.

When asked about his feelings on seeing a different Batman in Justice League, Nolan was upbeat like fans.

“I’m incredibly excited,” said Nolan about seeing Batman in the Justice League movie. “I was a big Batman fan when I was a kid. In fact he was the only comic-book character I really liked. I went through a brief spell where I was reading Captain Britain, because I was an English kid living in the States, and Wolverine for 30 seconds, Spider-Man too, but really Batman was the one. And I love that there are different versions of the character. I love that in the context of The Justice League, he’s kind of the black sheep of that family.”

When asked about the thought of including more DC characters in The Dark Knight Rises, Jonathan Nolan explained his brother’s approach. “Part of what’s compelling about Chris’s take is the naturalism of it,” added the co-writer of The Dark Knight, “and I think that’s one of the things I loved about the Frank Miller comic books was that they were sort of urban, gritty vigilante stories first and foremost. So everything had to stick within that universe.”

Interestingly, Jonathan Nolan was also asked about his take on Marvel’s The Avengers, which certainly set the bar high for the Justice League film.

Again, Nolan was upbeat like all fans of the Marvel superhero ensemble.

“To me Joss Whedon is a god,” Nolan continued. “I’m just a huge fan of his work, I love his work on TV. And I thought The Avengers was just an incredible achievement.”
