Mark Wahlberg and Dwayne Johnson star in director Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain

The trailer for director Michael Bay’s Pain & Gain was released with Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie in the roles of bodybuilders out for quick cash.

Although fans of Michael Bay have been consumed with Transformers related news in recent months, the new Pain & Gain goes back to Bay’s street level action roots for a Miami set story about bodybuilders looking to better their lives through a quick cash grab.

Starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson, and Anthony Mackie, Pain & Gain looks to be a high octane adrenaline rush similar to Bad Boys filled with comedy and caper/heist style action.

In the newly released Pain & Gain trailer, Mark Wahlberg’s character is fed up with living a life paycheck-to-paycheck and enlists the help of two fellow trainers to pull off a move that will set them up for life.

Based on a true story and a series of 1999 articles by Pete Collins in the Miami New Times, the three bodybuilders were dubbed the Miami Sun Gang in the media. Judging by the Pain & Gain trailer, Michael Bay may have another lucrative action hit beyond Transformers.

In related news, Michael Bay recently confirmed that Mark Wahlberg will also be starring in Transformers 4.

From acclaimed director Michael Bay comes “Pain and Gain,” a new action comedy starring Mark Wahlberg, Dwayne Johnson and Anthony Mackie. Based on the unbelievable true story of three personal trainers in 1990s Miami who, in pursuit of the American Dream, get caught up in a criminal enterprise that goes horribly wrong.

Ed Harris, Tony Shalhoub, Rob Corddry, Rebel Wilson and Bar Paly also star. The film is based on magazine articles by Pete Collins, with a screenplay by Christopher Markus & Stephen McFeely and produced by Donald DeLine, Michael Bay and Ian Bryce.
