Madonna threatened to cancel her show in Chile this week after smelling second-hand cigarette smoke during a sound check for her MDNA Tour concert.

In what is most definitely a sign of the changing times, Madonna lashed out at cigarette smokers during her sound check in Santiago, Chile by stating that she wouldn’t perform if people continued to smoke.

“If you’re going to smoke cigarettes, I’m not doing a show,” said Madonna, as reported by TMZ.

Knowing the dangers of second-hand smoke on the body, Madonna stood her ground on the matter and took a hard-line stance.

“”You don’t care about me? I don’t care about you,” Madonna continued. “All right? Are we going to play that game? I’m not kidding. I can’t sing if you smoke.”

The ultimatum by Madonna may have a ripple effect among other performers who have obviously endured second-hand smoke from fans at various shows around the world. Since smoking has become increasingly less trendy and cool in recent years, Madonna’s stance on the matter could urge other singers to issue the same warning to fans who smoke at shows.

Although smoking is par for the course at some shows depending on the genre of music, Madonna’s anti-smoking stance should resonate with other artists who’ve choked through live performances in the past.
