Grey’s Anatomy actor Patrick Dempsey became the new owner of Seattle-based Tully’s Coffee after beating out Starbucks with a winning bid of $9.15 million.
The sale of Tully’s Coffee was held as a private auction where Patrick Dempsey along with other investors from and Global Baristas competed with coffee giant Starbucks and Baristas Coffee which operates a chain of drive-thru espresso stands.
Following the sale, Dempsey said that he was “thrilled” to have won but he was “even more excited about saving Tully’s Coffee and its hundreds of jobs.”
The Grey’s Anatomy star went on to praise the Pacific Northwestern city and those who work for Tully’s. “Seattle has been very good to me over my career,” added Dempsey, “and I am honored to have the privilege to own Tully’s and work closely with the company’s employees.”
Dempsey also made reference to the sale on Twitter and beating a coffee giant. “We met the green monster, looked her in the eye, and…SHE BLINKED,” Dempsey tweeted. “We got it! Thank you Seattle!”
Now that Tully’s Coffee is under new ownership, we wonder if Dempsey will stand behind the bar and serve up coffee in Seattle.
