Kenneth Branagh is currently in talks with Disney to helm the upcoming live-action Cinderella movie after Mark Romanek dropped out of the project.
According to a source at Vulture.com, Romanek’s departure from the live-action Cinderella with Cate Blanchett left Disney in a scramble for a suitable replacement. If Kenneth Branagh and Disney can strike a deal, Cinderella may be able to make its expected 2014 theatrical release date.
Although Disney still needs to lock down a new director, Disney has not confirmed a cast beyond Cate Blanchett in the role of the wicked stepmother. The title role of Cinderella is still in the casting stage.
Simon Kinberg will produce the Cinderella project after production wraps on Elysium.
Branagh, an accomplished actor as well, has experience in live-action fantasy films. He appeared in Harry Potter and the Chamber of Secrets in 2002 and directed the live-action adaptation of Thor which was released in 2011.
Kenneth Branagh directed Thor in 2001 and will next take the helm and act in Jack Ryan, starring Chris Pine and Kevin Costner.
