It appears that actor Chris Pratt of Parks and Recreation may the lead in Marvel’s upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy movie directed by James Gunn.
Unconfirmed word out of Deadline has it that Chris Pratt will play the role of Peter Quill, aka Starlord, in Guardians of the Galaxy after Marvel looked at several actors for the role, including Joseph Gordon-Levitt who recently signed on to the Sin City sequel A Dame to Kill For.
Just last month rumors at Variety had it that Zachary Levi (NBC’s Chuck) and Jim Sturgess (Cloud Atlas) made the shortlist to play Starlord. Now, however, Chris Pratt appears to be the big ticket rumor of the day. Pratt was last seen on the big screen as a Navy Seal in Kathryn Bigelow’s Zero Dark Thirty.
The upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy is based on the 2008 reboot of the series from Marvel Comics. Director James Gunn also co-wrote the screenplay along with Nicole Perlman and Chris McCoy.
In the Guardians of the Galaxy comics, Star-Lord assembles a team of galactic superheroes to protect the universe before establishing the space station Knowhere, which houses a teleportation system with near-universal range that teleports the Guardians anywhere in the galaxy where they’re needed to thwart a crisis.
Originally created by Marvel in 1969, the Guardians of the Galaxy teamed with The Avengers in the comic book universe and may be connected to Iron Man 3 as a tie in before the stand alone Guardians release in 2014.
