After a 14th season with lower ratings and less than stellar singers, it has been confirmed by FOX that next season of American Idol will be the last for the pioneer of singing competition shows.
According to the network’s press release:
AMERICAN IDOL will begin its 15th – and final – season this January on FOX. A season-long celebratory event, AMERICAN IDOL XV will feature host Ryan Seacrest and judges Jennifer Lopez, Keith Urban and Harry Connick, Jr., as they search for the final IDOL superstar and pay tribute to the past 14 seasons of amazingly talented contestants and the millions of fans who tweeted, texted and championed their IDOLs.
As you can see the networks said that all three judges will return as well as host, Ryan Seacrest. What happens if the rating sky rocket next season because it’s the last season. Will they still call it quits? It will be the end of an era.
American Idol has been an unusual platform for it’s singers and the outcomes of their successes. Winners Kelly Clarkson and Carrie Underwood both have massive careers, but then there are other contestants who didn’t win that ended up having some success as well, like Chris Daughtry, and Oscar-winner Jennifer Hudson.
