Warner Bros. Pictures released a new “Black Mass” trailer for the Boston mobster film. Directed by Scott Cooper (“Crazy Heart”) with 3-time Oscar nominee Johnny Depp in the leading role as James “Whitey” Bulger, the Black Mass trailer will have you wishing time away until the movie premieres in theaters September 18th.
Along with Depp, the film also stars, Joel Edgerton as FBI Agent John Connelly, Oscar nominated Benedict Cumberbatch from “The Immitation Game,” as Whitey’s brother and State Senator Billy Bulger, Rory Cochrane as Steve Flemmi, Jesse Flemmons as Kevin Weeks, Whitey’s main henchman, and Kevin Bacon as FBI Special Agent Charge Charles McGuire.
Black Mass tells this true story:
“In 1970s South Boston, FBI Agent John Connolly (Edgerton) persuades Irish mobster James “Whitey” Bulger (Depp) to collaborate with the FBI and eliminate a common enemy: the Italian mob. The drama tells the story of this unholy alliance, which spiraled out of control, allowing Whitey to evade law enforcement, consolidate power, and become one of the most ruthless and powerful gangsters in Boston history.”
Whitey Bulger was captured on June 22, 2011 after 16 years on the run and 12 years on the FBI’s Ten Most Wanted Fugitives list. “‘Black Mass’ has been rated R for brutal violence, language throughout, some sexual references, and brief drug use.”
