ABC announced the Grammy- and Emmy-nominated pop icon, Katy Perry, is the first judge revealed for the network’s revival of “American Idol,” and a new generation of music artists.
In the ABC press release, Katy Perry said, “I am honored and thrilled to be the first judge bringing back the American Idol tradition of making dreams come true for incredible talents with authentic personalities and real stories,” adding “I’m always listening to new music, and love discovering diamonds in the rough – from mentoring young artists on my label, or highlighting new artists on my tours, I want to bring it back to the music.”
Auditions begin in August with a nationwide search in 19 city tour, corner t0 corner, from Portland, Oregon to Orlando Florida, and Boston, Massachusetts to Denver, Colorado. Contestants must be 15 years of age to audtion, and you can find more specific details at AmericanIdol.com
Katy Perry is the only “American Idol” judge announced thus far, but there were 3-4 judges in previous seasons, so we can expect Perry to be joined by others soon.
The new season of “American Idol” in a new home is schedule to air in the 2017-2018 season on ABC.
