Polish the silver and pour a cocktail, our dreams of a “Downton Abbey” movie appear to have come true. Michael Edelstein, president at NBCUniversal International Studios, tells the Associate Press, “There’s a movie in the works. It’s been in the works for some time,” hoping to reunite the 20 cast members of the original TV series.
“We are working on getting the script right and then we’ve got to figure out how to get the (cast) together. Because as you know, people go on and do other things. But we’re hopeful to make a movie sometime next year,” Edelstein said in Singapore at a red-carpet event for “Downton Abbey: The Exhibition.”
“Downton Abbey” concluded with season 6 in 2015, and it was an ending to please viewers and fans, but it just seemed like 6 seasons wasn’t enough. Writer and creator of the series, Julian Fellowes also said, “I think we’ve got a film in us. I hope it happens.”
There’s no word yet on the storyline or anticipated premiere date for a “Downton Abbey” film, but production will likely begin in 2018. Meanwhile, we anxiously wait for more details.
