International Olympic Committee Bans 11 Russian Winter Athletes For Doping

10 months ago by admin

On Friday, the International Olympic Committee (IOC) announced it has banned 11 Russian athletes for life after they committed doping offenses at the 2014 Sochi winter games. The athletes included speed skaters, cross-country skiers, bobsledders, and ice hockey players, were all banned from the events they took part in, the IOC Disciplinary Commission said that they were also stripped of their medals and banned from future Olympic events.

The move comes after the IOC found evidence of an unprecedented systematic manipulation of the anti-doping system during the Sochi Winter Olympics. Earlier this month the IOC barred Russia from the 2018 Winter Games in Pyeongchang, South Korea after a prolonged investigation. All Russian athletes permitted to compete will do so under a neutral Olympic uniform and records will show zero medals for Russia.
