Former “Deadliest Catch” captain Blake Painter was found dead in his home in Oregon on Friday, the Clatsop County Sheriff’s office confirms to PEOPLE. He was 38. The past captain of the F/V Maverick appeared in “Deadliest Catch” in 2006-07.
Painter was discovered when a friend became concerned and called police after not hearing from him for several days, TMZ reports. Police are testing several substances for narcotics found at the scene of his death. His official cause of death will be determined following an autopsy and toxicology test.
Painter first appeared on Discovery Channel’s crab fishing series in season 2 and left before the third season finished.
