Big Actresses Sign On For Pippa Lee
October 30, 2007

Winona Ryder, Robin Wright Penn, and Julianne Moore have all signed to the dramedy The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, according to Variety. The star-studded film will be produced by Elevation Filmworks and Plan B Entertainment. Lemore Syvan of Elevation will produce the film with Plan B and Lumina Films, a London-based company will co-produce and handle worldwide sales. CAA will partner on the domestic distribution rights. Variety also reports that Lumina Films will introduce the film to international buyers.

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee will be directed Rebecca Miller, the auteur behind The Ballad of Jack and Rose, which earned praise for Daniel Day-Lewis' work. Pippa Lee is based on a novel of the same title by Rebecca Miller. The story is about a dutiful wife whose husband ends up falling for a younger woman. After the infidelity the wife explores her own sensuality and has what Variety is calling a very quiet nervous breakdown. It's hard to say who will play the wife or the younger woman. Our guess is that Julianne Moore plays the wife. She does that repressed sensuality thing very, very well.

The Private Lives of Pippa Lee will start shooting in Connecticut in April. The companies behind the film also produced Gracie and The Ballad of Jack and Rose. Co-producing company Plan B is the one co-owned by Brad Pitt and the team behind The Assassination of Jesse James by the Coward Robert Ford and A Mighty Heart.

The 36-year-old Winona Ryder was last seen in A Scanner Darkly and The Ten and has finished shooting Sex and Death 101 with Patton Oswalt, Welcome with John Hawkes, and The Last Word with Wes Bentley. She is currently finishing shooting The Informers with Mickey Rourke and Brandon Routh and may go into Alpha Numeric before shooting Pippa Lee. The 46-year-old Julianne Moore was recently seen in Children of Men and Next and will be seen this fall in I'm Not There. She has finished shooting Blindness and is in pre-production on Boone's Lick, Hateship, Friendship, Courtship, and Morgan's Summit, according to IMDB. Finally, the 41-year-old Robin Wright Penn was last seen in Breaking and Entering and will be caught next month in Beowulf. She has finished shooting What Just Happened and is in pre-production on Hectic and State of Play with Ed Norton and Brad Pitt.
