Actor, Singer Robert Goulet dead at 73

Today’s younger generation most likely knows Robert Goulet from the hilarious Will Farrell skits on Saturday Night Live, but the well known actor/singer leaves behind an impressive body of work. Whether you’re a fan of the SNL sketches or Goulet’s real performances on the stage or screen, it’s last we’ll see of him, as the famous baritone passed away in Los Angeles at the Cedars-Sinai Medical Center on Tuesday, October 30, 2007. Goulet was 73.
For those close to Robert Goulet, the news of his death came as a shock, but it was also widely known that Robert Goulet was already a patient at Cedars, awaiting a lung transplant. According to E! Online, Robert Goulet was suffering from the lung disease, Interstitial Pulmonary Fibrosis, and had been hospitalized since September 30, 2007, starting in Las Vegas and then later transferred to Los Angeles.
The full scope of Robert Goulet’s condition wasn’t known until last month, when his wife Vera gave an update to The Associated Press. As for Goulet, Robert was under heavy sedation at the time and could barely speak. However, just before being put on a respirator, Goulet told AP, "Just give me a new pair of lungs and I'll hit the high notes until I'm 100."
The career of Robert Goulet spans over fifty years and two countries, as he initially got his professional start in Canada, later re-locating to the United States. Born in Massachusetts, Robert Goulet got his first taste of fame with his role as Sir Lancelot in the Broadway musical Camelot. After Camelot, the offers started to pour in and in the years to follow, Robert Goulet picked up such awards as a Grammy and a Tony for his duel talents of singing and acting.
