Marie Osmond continues 'Dancing' after father's death
November 7, 2007
As tragedy struck the Osmond family on Tuesday with the death of the family patriarch, George Osmond, Marie Osmond has announced that she will be able to return to the widly popular ABC series Dancing With the Stars to continue her dancefloor moves. The announcement comes after Marie Osmond skipped this week's performance to be with her family to mourn the death of George Osmond, who died of natural causes at the age of 90 at his Utah home.
George Osmond, the former insurance salesman and devout Mormon, fathered nine children in his life, several of which rose to fame throughout their own lifetime. Alan, Wayne, Merrill and Jay Osmond started a group known as the Osmond Brothers, which catapulted the name to fame. However, with the inclusion of 6-year-old Donny Osmond, the group reached new heights. Donny Osmond went on to become a teenage heartthrob as he got older, and even went on to co-star the Donny and Marie Show with his sister, Marie Osmond.
But while George Osmond's nine children, 55 grandchildren and 48 great-grandchildren came together to mourn the loss of the Osmond family patriarch, the show must go on. Marie Osmond offered a particularly heartfelt performance on Dancing With the Stars on Monday, when she donned a military-type outfit to pay tribute to her parents, who came together during her father's time in the service. ABC News quoted Marie Osmond, who said on the show that, "They met in the military, my dad came back from the service." Marie added, "And they used to dance to make money to eat. I love that. And so this is for them."
After Marie Osmond delivered her dedicated performance on Monday, she was unable to show up to the live Dancing With the Stars show on Tuesday, as she had left to be with her parents. However, that left her future with the series in doubt, with some wondering if Marie Osmond would return to the show at all this season. But it wasn't Marie Osmond's time to leave the series just yet - Jane Seymour, who missed an elimination episode earlier in the season due to the death of her mother, was cast off this week. Seymour had dedicated all her remaining performances on the show to her mom, who was a fan of the British version of the series.
