Seth MacFarlane Claims Family Guy In Trouble
November 7, 2007

Family Guy creator Seth MacFarlane was walking the picket line today in support of the Writers Guild of America strike and he let drop a bombshell for fans of the Griffin family - this Sunday's coming episode is the last one in the can. So, until the strike is over there will be no more new Family Guy after episode 101 (the show marked the milestone of 100 episodes just a few days ago). It looks like Family Guy could be the latest victim of a strike that has shown no signs of ending and has already led to several fan favorites going into repeats or best-of mode.

According to Variety, MacFarlane revealed on the picket line today that there are other episodes near completion but, being a striking writer himself, those episodes won't be completed by him (and, probably, can't be legally completed by anyone else). It's not just a legal matter with the almost-complete Family Guys - Seth MacFarlane provides most of the voices on the show, including Peter and Stewie Griffin. It could be real hard to finish with a scab writer. When asked if Fox could just go ahead and do just that, MacFarlane told Variety, "They could, but it would be unwise. Because I would be angry."

A Fox spokesperson said to Variety, "Our hope is that he returns to work and completes his non-writing obligations on those episodes." Ouch. Does that sound like an olive branch from network to writer to you? Us neither. It looks like Family Guy fans might be in for a world of repeats. Or someone doing a really bad Stewie impression and an angry Seth MacFarlane. Stay tuned to The Deadbolt for the latest on the strike and how it affects the Griffin family.
