Ellen Pompeo Marries Music Exec
November 14, 2007

The lead star of Grey's Anatomy, on a break because of the writer's strike (and recently seen on the picket line to support her writer friends), got married last Friday to music producer Chris Ivery in a very brief civil ceremony at New York City Hall, overseen by the Mayor of the Big Apple, Michael Bloomberg. Jennifer Allen, the publicist for Ellen Pompeo, told E!, "They are over the moon." We send the newlyweds our congratulations.

Allen tells E! that the ceremony only took a couple of minutes - kind of the polar opposite of the recent nuptials of another ABC star, Eva Longoria - and was conducted by a random city clerk. Bloomberg was in attendance, as was First Deputy Mayor Patti Harris. They were the witnesses for Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery. According to Allen, the witnesses, the happy couple, and the clerk were the only people there at the small ceremony at City Hall. This is the first wedding for both of them.

Joseph Pompeo, the father of the bride, told People, "I'm very happy for her. She just didn't want a big thing." In keeping with the wedding that we didn't even know about for days and only a few people attended, Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery won't be going on a honeymoon right away but will vacation in Italy soon. The newlyweds were spotted at a Knicks game on Sunday night, but have since returned to the west coast where Pompeo joined Grey's Anatomy writer and showrunner Shonda Rhimes on the picket line. Grey's Anatomy will close up shop soon because of the strike.

Ellen Pompeo and Chris Ivery met in 2003, even though they grew up only minutes from each other in Boston. They were engaged in November of last year, as Ivery gave Pompeo a 3.5-carat emerald-cut diamond in a platinum setting. Since then, according to E!, Pompeo has been very vocal about wanting a quiet ceremony, even suggesting that she may elope. That didn't happen, but it was close to it.
