Doctor Who has stayed strong and is arguably more popular than ever and it's partially due to the revolving door of its main cast. The new version, brought back to brilliant life by Russell T. Davies, has been centered around two lead characters since the beginning and, even though we're only in the third season, the dynamic Doctor duo has already completely changed. At the end of the first season, Christopher Eccleston handed control of the Tardis to David Tennant and, at the end of the second season, Billie Piper gave way to Freema Agyeman as his new mortal companion, Martha Jones. And Doctor Who didn't skip a beat. If you liked the first two seasons, it's very likely that you'll enjoy season three, particularly the final three episodes which feature Torchwood's John Barrowman.

The final disc of the third series of Doctor Who features a great special called Doctor Who Confidential. Each episode gets its own 15-minute behind-the-scenes featurette with interviews with the cast and details on the special effects for that chapter. The show is narrated by Anthony Stewart Head of Buffy the Vampire Slayer fame. Another very cool special feature is the "Music and Monsters" special, an hour-long look at an event in Britain that featured Tennant and the monsters from Doctor Who in a live musical event.

There's very little wrong with any of the Doctor Who DVDs, but I do find the menu screens annoying. When you put in a Who disc, you have to wait through a long scene before you get to the screen and the menu button doesn't work. It's a minor complaint, but that's all you'll get with the Doctor Who DVDs.

The Doctor Who DVDs are so well-produced that the second season just won an award for best foreign TV series from the TV DVD Awards, sponsored by Home Media Magazine, TV Shows on DVD, and The Hollywood Reporter. We'll give you one guess which set is the frontrunner for next year's award in the same category.
