Steven Spielberg to be honored at Golden Globes
November 15, 2007

He has directed some of the most influential movies of the past three decades, and now, Steven Spielberg is set to receive a special Golden Globe award to recognize his contribution to the world of film. The Golden Globe Awards will bestow an award on Steven Spielberg for his "outstanding contribution to entertainment" during next year's Golden Globe Awards ceremony, according to organizers of the event.

Steven Spielberg has been tapped to take home next year's Cecil B. DeMille Award, which recognizes his illustrious career in the world of film. Throughout his tenure as a director, Spielberg has turned out some of the highest grossing films of all time, and has already pocketed numerous Golden Globes for his work. The most recent of the 60-year-old director's six Golden Globe Awards came from Saving Private Ryan, though movies such as Schindler's List and ET have also earned Steven Spielberg some hardware.

The Cecil B. DeMille Award will be given to Steven Spielberg on January 13, 2008, when the next Golden Globe ceremony kicks off. It will be only the most recent honor for Spielberg, who already has a litany of lifetime achievement awards. To date, Steven Spielberg has received awards for his career from he Directors Guild of America, the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences, the American Film Institute and the Kennedy Centre. Steven Spielberg will join other Cecil B. DeMille Award winners such as Anthony Hopkins, Al Pacino, Warren Beatty and Michael Douglas when he accepts his award early next year.

Not all eyes will be focused on Steven Spielberg throughout the ceremony, however, as the Golden Globe organizers announced that Rumer Willis, the daughter of Bruce Willis and Demi Moore, has been named Miss Golden Globe 2008. The 19-year-old eldest daughter of the celebrity couple has been awarded the title of Miss Golden Globe 2008 by the Hollywood Foreign Press Association. The job of Miss Golden Globe is to hand out the trophies during the awards ceremony. By tradition, the role of Miss Golden Globe is filled by the daughter of a celebrity.

Several big names have stepped in to the role of Miss Golden Globe, with Melanie Griffith taking the role in 1975 as the daughter of Tippi Hedren, the leading lady of several Alfred Hitchcock films. In 2004, the world saw Kevin Costner's daughter Lily take on the role, and in 1995, Clark Gable's son took on the title of Miss Golden Globe in a bit of a role reversal. Rumer Willis is currently launching her own acting career with an appearance in a 2008 thriller, From Within.
