McG to direct Terminator 4?
November 16, 2007
After rumors came down the pike a few weeks ago that Charlie's Angels director McG was in the running to take the reins on the next film in The Terminator franchise, it appears that McG may very well be the director of Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins. According to the gang at Moviehole, apparently a director has been signed to the project and an old, reliable source tells Moviehole that McG is no longer rumored or "in talks" to direct Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins, but McG will indeed be the director of the next film in The Terminator saga.
Although nothing has been officially confirmed, the buzz surrounding McG as the next Terminator director has been ramping up for weeks. Outlets have been clammering about the rumors for some time and it won't be a big surprise to anyone if we hear the official announecement next week regarding Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins.
When McG directed Charlie's Angels, he didn't really win me over. I was much, much more into his video work with Sublime, Korn, and Cypress Hill. It wasn't until McG directed We Are Marshall and got involved with The O.C. and Supernatural that I began to look at him in a different light as a director. Taking on Terminator Salvation: The Future Begins could be a double-edged sword for McG. He'll either be the guy that resurrected the franchise and took it in a new and exciting direction (it's rumored to be a new trilogy), or he'll be forever known as the director that killed all of the Terminator models with one fell swoop.
