Jennifer Garner heading to Gervais' 'Truth'
November 19, 2007
While Jennifer Garner has always been a force on Alias, big screen success has been slightly more elusive for Garner, whose biggest roles include Daredevil, Elektra and the recently released action flick, The Kingdom. However, it looks like if all goes well, Jennifer Garner will be able to re-brand herself in the world of comedy, as she is in talks to star alongside Ricky Gervais in the upcoming flick, This Side of the Truth.
The script for This Side of the Truth has been penned by Ricky Gervais and Matthew Robinson, who are also teaming up to direct the indie comedy. Per Variety, This Side of the Truth "is set in a world where lying doesn't exist. Story centers on an Everyman (Gervais) who figures out how to lie and uses his newfound ability to woo a beautiful woman way out of his league (Garner) and become a success at work." Lynda Obst is set to produce the film with her son, Oly Obst.
This Side of the Truth will be a landmark film for Ricky Gervais, as it will be the first time the pioneer of The Office will star in a feature-length Hollywood film. However, given Gervais' talents, which were not seen in his creation, writing and directing of The Office but also from his similar work with Stephen Merchant on Extras, it's about time for Ricky to come to Hollywood. With the leap to leading man, it means that appearances like the ones Gervais did for Stardust, Night at the Museum and For Your Consideration and finally won over America.
Meanwhile, Jennifer Garner will be heading back tot he big screen for this project, as she is currently on Broadway right now, where she stars opposite Kevin Kline in Cyrano de Bergerac. Jennifer Garner's next big-screen appearance will come from the Fox Searchlight picture Juno, which stars Ellen Page, Michael Cera, Jason Bateman and Rainn Wilson. Garner is also set to start filming on New Line's Ghosts of Girlfriends Past with Matthew McConaughey in February.
