Nicole Richie donates baby shower gifts to charity

Mother-to-be Nicole Richie is getting into maternal mode full-swing, given the Wizard of Oz-themed baby shower thrown for her by her friends - namely Paris Hilton. However, it looks that though maternal instinct is taking over for Nicole Richie, as she ix exercising that whole "it is better to give than to receive" thing.

Simple Life star Nicole Richie and her boyfriend, Good Charlotte rocker Joel Madden, have decided to donate all of the baby gifts they received from their shower to charity. People Magazine reports that in total, 100 families who are expecting their own bundle of joy will receive the gifts given to Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. Richie and Madden will make their donations though the newly-formed Richie Madden Foundation through the Los Angeles Free Clinic.

While the gifts from Sunday' baby shower will be heading off to charity, it seems like one or two gifts might stay with the family-to-be. Reports from People Magazine claim that Richie and Madden will keep one children's book from every guest that showed up in order to start out a baby library for the bundle of joy, who is due sometime in January. People Magazine quoted Rashida Jones of NBC's The Office, who said, "It's really sweet. With all the swag these days, we're given so much stuff it's almost wasteful, and it's kind of nice when we're giving to each other to give to someone else."

But it turns out there may be more big news for Nicole Richie and Joel Madden. While no one has publicly stated what the sex of the baby is going to be, it looks as though Lionel Richie may have dropped that bomb. The Web site RTE.ie quoted Lionel Richie's interview with OK! Magazine, where he reportedly stated, "Nicole is having a boy. She even has a few names picked out." That would also keep in line with the blue baby clothes Nicole has been seen purchasing recently. Who knows.
