Lead Singer of Quiet Riot Silent Forever
November 27, 2007
We don't mean to be flip at all, but a moment of silence is needed for heavy metal today after the lead singer of Quiet Riot, Kevin DuBrow, passed away in Las Vegas on Sunday at the age of 52. According to E!, Kevin DuBrow was found dead in his home and the news was broken on the website for Quiet Riot drummer Frankie Banali. He wrote, "I can't even find words to say. Please respect my privacy as I mourn the passing and honor the memory of my dearest friend, Kevin DuBrow."
According to police reports, they were drawn to the scene of Kevin DuBrow's passing on Sunday afternoon when a neighbor expressed concern and asked the Las Vegas Metro Police to do a welfare check. The spokeswoman for the police told E! that there were no signs of foul play in the death of the lead singer, which was made official around 5:20pm on Sunday. Other than that, not a lot is known, as there has been no cause of death released to the public. E! reports that the Clark County coroner will conduct an autopsy and toxicology tests later this week but that we won't know the results for weeks. MTV is reporting that DuBrow was seen in good health just last month in New Orleans celebrating his birthday.
The bassist for Quiet Riot put a post on his site that asked fans not to rush to judgment about how DuBrow died, saying, "I ask that no one here offer any speculation or opinions, theories or other things that could be construed as negative or, and I'm sorry for this, even sympathetic, right at this immediate time. I am already, within hours of this, having to deal with untrue rumors and speculation and that only adds fuel to that. There is a tendency for the subject of Kevin to incite flames on every board, and now is not the time for that. I will explain to everyone here the facts and the truth in the next 24 to 48 hours as I realize this will affect us all. So please, until then be patient."
Quiet Riot will always hold the title of the first metal band to score a top 5 hit with "Cum On Feel the Noize," which made them instant stars with Metal Health. It was the first metal release to top the Billboard album charts. Metal Health sold 6 million copies. They would never top it again. After a series of break-ups and getting back together, Quiet Riot released Rehab last year, which will be the band's last studio album.
