Brad Pitt’s Plan for New Orleans
December 3, 2007

Brad Pitt may be an A-list movie star on top of the entertainment world, but that doesn’t mean Pitt isn’t giving something back to people in need by using his celebrity for the greater good. Shortly after Hurricane Katrina devistated the city of New Orleans, Brad Pitt was one of the first major celebrities to lend his support and help rebuild the city with his "Pink Project", which has evolved into what Pitt calls, "Make It Right".

Pitt's plan has been in the works for many months and now appears to be finally going forward with the goal to create 150 new homes by the end of next summer for families affected and displaced by Hurricane katrina. According to People magazine, on Monday Brad Pitt revealed his plan on NBC’s Today Show while touring New Orleans’ 9th Ward. As Pitt explained, "I'm hoping we can start here and expand all over New Orleans" Brad Pitt and NBC correspondent Ann Curry walked across the future site, which is currently lined with hot pink tents. According to the report, Pitt mentioned that he views the site as "an art installation, a social statement" and is interested to see what the tents look like on Google Earth.

Although Pitt could have simply attached his name to the project with minimal involvment, the actor is also injecting his own money into the project in the range of $5 million. Pitt admittedly is "not much of a salesman" and is also urging, "foundations, individuals of means, church groups help the families of New Orleans get back into their homes."

As for his partner Angelina Jolie, the actress is fully supporting Pitt's goal. Angelina Jolie and the couple’s daughter, Zahara, were on hand in New Orleans over the weekend to tour the pink tented site. Jolie later joined up with Pitt as he was cycling near the site, occasionally stopping to take photos with fans. After voicing their love for the city, Pitt and Jolie recently purchased their own house in New Orleans in the city's French Quarter.
