Karl Urban Talks the Challenges of McCoy and Star Trek
December 21, 2007
This week we had the awesome good fortune of talking to actor Karl
Urban about the upcoming CBS mini-series and Lonesome Dove
prequel Comanche Moon, which makes its network debut on January 13.
Although Urban gave us the goods on what fans can expect from the epic
three part Western, he also gave us an update on the latest activity
from the top secret, Fort Knox style security set of J.J. Abrams' highly
anticipated Star Trek film.
Urban, who was recently cast as the new incarnation of Dr. "Bones"
McCoy, revealed that the new Star Trek reboot has been a huge
challenge in more ways that one in terms of the intense security measures
in place on the production. "I think the hardest part really is
maintaining the level of security and secrecy that we have all been forced to
adopt. I mean it’s really kind of paranoid crazy, but sort of
justified. We’re not allowed to walk around in public in our costumes and we
have to be herded around everywhere in these golf carts that are
completely concealed and covered in black canvas. The security of it is
immense. You feel your freedom is a big challenge."
In addition to Star Trek, after several online reports have
indicated
Urban will soon be seen in Die Hard director John
McTiernan's upcoming action-conspiracy-thriller Run, Urban confirmed
that he hasn't yet signed on to the project. At this point, given what
the 2008 release of Star Trek could do for Urban's career,
especially in the short term, the decision not to sign on to Run
might be a well calculated move.
