Sean Penn and Robin Wright Getting Divorced

No one saw this one coming. One of the longest-lasting couples and marriages in Hollywood, Robin Wright Penn and Sean Penn, are calling it quits after eleven years of wedlock. The two Hollywood heavyweights are splitting, according to reports announced today. Their representative, Mara Buxbaum, confirmed the rumors to People but no additional details have been given. Sean Penn and Robin Wright Penn have two children and have been together almost two decades, having dated and had kids before they were married. Their two children are named Dylan Frances, who is 16, and Hopper Jack Penn, who is fourteen.

Sean Penn was married before Robin Wright Penn to Madonna, who has since remarried to Guy Ritchie. Robin Wright Penn was also a bride before Sean, having been married to actor Dane Witherspoon. Sean Penn is 47 and Robin Wright is 41. The two worked together several times after meeting in the early '90s and getting married in 1996. They starred together in 1998's Hurlyburly and 1997's She's So Lovely. People quotes Sean Penn today from an article in 1997,. in which he said, "Marriage ain't easy, but it's great most of the time. I love Robin. I've always lover her."

The most recent film by Sean Penn, Into the Wild, drew raves this fall and scored four SAG nominations and two Golden Globe nods on its way to likely Oscar nominations. As an actor, Sean Penn has finished shooting Wayne Kramer's Crossing Over with Harrison Ford, Ray Liotta, and Ashley Judd, and may go into Tree of Life or playing Harvey Milk in Milk next, depending on what happens with the strike. Recent performances by the Oscar-winning actor include his work in All the King's Men, The Interpreter, The Assassination of Richard Nixon, 21 Grams, Mystic River, I Am Sam, The Weight of Water, Before Night Falls, and Sweet and Lowdown.

Robin Wright Penn was recently seen in (sorta) Beowulf and has finished shooting Barry Levinson's What Just Happened? with Bruce Willis, Stanley Tucci, and Robert De Niro. She will next go into either Hectic, State of Play, The Private Lives of Pippa Lee, or A Christmas Carol, according to IMDB.com.
