American Idol Contestant Back to Rehab
January 7, 2008
Arguably the most disgraced American Idol contestant, Jessica Sierra, has found herself back in the long arm of rehab after a much-publicized fight and arrest in a club. According to MTV, Jessica Sierra was in court this morning in Tampa, Florida, and she pleaded no contest to charges of disorderly intoxication and obstruction of an officer. Judge Daniel Perry reluctantly sent Jessica Sierra to rehab for a year. The reluctance comes from the fact that the rehab center that will house Jessica Sierra has been used for TV shows in the past and the judge thinks that the American Idol contestant might see this as a boost for her career. Isn't rehab what all failed celebrities do now anyway? TV cameras or not?
The Tampa Tribune reports today that the judge sentenced Jessica Sierra to a year at the Pasadena Recovery Center in Pasadena, California. He said to her, "I don't want this to be some steppingstone for her to have a career as a recovering addict." Um, too late. Perry did however prohibit Sierra from doing any interviews or appearing on TV at all during her recovery. That means she won't be able to promote her upcoming appearance on Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew, a show that debuts this Thursday on VH1 and that we'll have a tough time taking seriously considering what we know about the aftermath.
The incident also earned Jessica Sierra two years of probation. The altercation took place on December 1st at a bar in Ybor City, Florida. Sierra allegedly got into a fight with bar personnel after getting kicked out of the establishment. She also fought with police, vomited in the police car, called the cops named, yelled racial slurs, and offered sexual favors in an attempt to get released. The arrest violated the probation of the AI contestant from an incident from last April that resulted in charges of cocaine possession and felony battery.
Dr. Drew actually spoke at the trial today, claiming that the low level treatment that Jessica Sierra received for the VH1 show wasn't nearly enough for her to get over her demons of addiction but that a year-long stint would do the trick.
If Jessica Sierra doesn't abide by the rehab rules for the next year, she'll do a year behind bars.
