Kiefer Sutherland Released From Jail
January 21, 2008

The star of 24 has served his 48. Kiefer Sutherland was released from a California jail this morning after serving 48 days behind bars for drunken driving and violating probation. The 41-year-old Emmy winner left the Glendale City Jail shortly after midnight this morning, according to Glendale Police Office John Balian. He spoke to Reuters about the model inmate, saying, "He never gave us any problems, never complained about anything." Kiefer Sutherland was arrested in September for drunken driving, which violated his probation from the same charge in 2004, for which he was convicted. He pleaded no contest and was sentenced to 48 days behind bars.

Partially due to the strike, Kiefer Sutherland was allowed to serve his time without affecting the production of his hit show 24, which still won't shoot as the strike has indefinitely delayed the seventh season. Kiefer's not done yet. Sutherland has to serve another five years probation, complete an 18-month alcohol education program and go to weekly therapy sessions for the next six months. He also paid a fine of $510. The technical specifications of his sentence included 30 days for this drunken driving incident and 18 days for the probation violation.

Kiefer Sutherland has been a successful actor for years, but it was the hit 24, which averaged over 13 million viewers last season, which really propelled him to a new level of fame. If you want to celebrate the release of Kiefer Sutherland from prison today, watch one of his old movies on DVD like Stand by Me, The Lost Boys, Young Guns, Flatliners, A Few Good Men, The Vanishing, The Three Musketeers, The Cowboy Way, Freeway, A Time to Kill, Dark City, Phone Booth, Taking Lives, and The Sentinel. Kiefer Sutherland has already finished shooting Alexandre Aja's Mirrors with Paula Patton and Amy Smart.
