Lohan and Murphy Lead Razzie Nominations
January 21, 2008

Lindsay Lohan, Adam Sandler, and Eddie Murphy won't hear their names called at this year's Academy Awards, but they did earn a Razzie nod for their work in 2007. The 28th annual Golden Raspberry awards, which celebrates the tragically awful every year, were announced this morning and several of the most critically reviled films of 2007 made the cut, including I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, I Know Who Killed Me, and Norbit. Eddie Murphy and Lindsay Lohan scored double nominations, each getting a nod for worst screen couple, as they both played different characters in their respective cinematic nightmares. Lindsay Lohan played psychically connected twins in I Know Who Killed Me and Eddie Murphy played husband and wife in the comedy Norbit.

Eddie Murphy himself landed five nominations for what John Wilson, the head of the Razzie group, called a "latex-laden, nearly laugh-free 'comedy'." Wilson also ripped on another nomination for an Adam Sandler movie, I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry, which he called, "a gag-inducing 'gay romp'." I Know Who Killed Me landed an amazing nine nominations for worst screen couple, worst picture, worst horror movie, worst screenplay, worst director, worst remake/rip-off, worst supporting actress and two nominations for worst actress, both for Lindsay Lohan. Wilson said, "I Know Who Killed Me is the most fabulously brainless movie since Showgirls, which Razzie voters picked as the worst movie of the 1990s. By the end of it, you still don't know what happened. Are they twins or aren't they? Did she imagine it? Can I please have my hour and 50 minutes back?"

Norbit and I Now Pronounce You Chuck and Larry trailed by only one with eight nods a piece. The other competition for worst picture of the year is Bratz and Daddy Day Camp. In a hilarious-but-somewhat-cruel move, all four of the lead actresses in Bratz were nominated for worst actress in one slot. Cuba Gooding Jr. had the incredible script-picking skill to land in two films nominated for worst picture of the year - Norbit and Daddy Day Camp.

Other nominees for worst actor, besides the double nomination for Eddie Murphy in Norbit, include Nicolas Cage for Ghost Rider, Cuba Gooding Jr. for Daddy Day Camp, and Jim Carrey for The Number 23. Besides the stars of Bratz and Lindsay Lohan, Jessica Alba 'competes' for worst actress for her hat trick of Awake, Fantastic Four: Rise of the Silver Surfer, and Good Luck Chuck. Elisha Cuthbert was also nominated for Captivity and Diane Keaton got a nod for Because I Said So.

The Razzies are held on February 23, the day before the Oscars, and the nominations are also released the day before the Academy Award nods, which come out tomorrow. Don't expect to hear the names Cuba, Lindsay, or Elisha tomorrow.
