Luckily, The Deadbolt received a diagnosis on Thirteen’s past, her relationship with House, the Christmas episode on January 29, what it was like to work with Mira Sorvino, and the status of Wilde’s big screen adventures.
Olivia Wilde on the secrets and past of her character Thirteen:
"She doesn’t have one secret. I’d say that Thirteen is kind of a bowl of secrets and they’re slowing revealing bits about her. Soon we’ll learn a little bit more. The big one that was dropped about her past was [that] she may or may not have Huntington’s. That was something I found out a little earlier than everyone else because I needed to know why she was guarded. So I went to David Shore and said, ‘I know you guys are so tight lipped and I respect that, but I need to know early on what she’s comfortable with and what strikes a chord with her.’ He trusted me and told me and I didn’t tell a soul, which was difficult, but it was good getting me into the character. Once I knew, it really shaped her for me and I had a lot of empathy and respect for her. As I continue to learn about her, I continue to love her more and more. But they’re very good about keeping secrets on House, but they respect us. And if we need to know something, they’re cool about letting us know."
Wilde on the romantic possibilities between Thirteen and House:
"It’s funny, I’ve seen some reviews where people are speculating that there’s romantic tension between Thirteen and House, and I never picked up on that myself. I think they have a mutual respect and they enjoy sparring with each other, they’re both stubborn and have strong personalities, but I don’t know. Of course I know very little because we find out things almost as soon as the audience does. I think anything is possible with her because she’s so unpredictable, but at this point what I see between them is not a romantic connection."
Wilde on running the Christmas episode on January 29th:
"I think the producers wanted to save some episodes to air in 2008 and because of the strike it was something a lot of shows had to do. It’s a great episode and I think they wanted to make sure people got to see it and, of course, we have our big Superbowl episode after that. They saved some really fabulous episodes for the next couple of weeks. That one is particularly interesting and the fact that it’s Christmas is odd and funny, sort of in the vein of House humor."
On the "Frozen" episode, guest-starring Mira Sorvino:
"Well, I respect Mira Sorvino immensely as an actress and I was really excited when I heard she was coming to do the show. A lot of big actors want to come on House to guest star and they’re not necessarily open to that. They pick people who are right for the role whether they are unknowns or famous. She really wanted to do it and she was perfect, so they were happy to welcome her and we were all really excited to meet her. The most interesting thing about that episode - without giving anything away - there’s a new technique of filming in that episode, a new way in which we’re going to see House. I’m being very vague, I know, but it’s a really interesting episode and House is forced to diagnose without the tools he usually has and he has to work a little harder and it’s a whole new way of working for him."
