Sean Young Goes to Rehab
January 30, 2008

Remember Sean Young? The once-promising star has turned into a candidate for Celebrity Rehab with Dr. Drew after a very embarassing incident at the Directors Guild of America Awards over the last weekend and after the very bad publicity and public shame she has now entered rehab. On Monday, the celebrity entered an alcohol-treatment program, as announced by her PR company, Insignia PR, who said, "Young voluntarily admitted herself yesterday to a rehabilitation center for treatment related to alcoholism. It is understood that Young has struggled against the disease for many years."

Sean Young became the center of attention for the first time in a while on Saturday night when she was actually tossed out of the DGA ceremony for heckling Julian Schnabel, the director of The Diving Bell and the Butterfly, in an early contender for the weirdest celebrity story of the year. All the nominees were allowed to take the stage on Saturday night and say a few words at the Hyatt Regency in Century City. Schnabel took the podium just before the grand prize was handed out to the Coen Brothers for No Country For Old Men. Sean Young somehow had a seat near the front, at Helen Hunt's table, and reportedly shouted out "Hurry up with the speech." Schnabel shot back "Have another cocktail, sweetheart, or would you rather finish my speech for me?" The exchange continued until Young was removed from the room.

The DGA hasn't commented on the incident, saying, "The DGA wishes to respect Ms. Young's privacy at this difficult time and declines further comment."

Sean Young was a huge star in the '80s, appearing in some of the biggest movies of the decade including Stripes, Blade Runner, Dune, No Way Out, and Wall Street. But her career went off the tracks in 1988 after some erratic behavior with James Woods on the set of The Boost. She was then fired by Warren Beatty from the cast of Dick Tracy for more unusual behavior (she claimed it was because she rebuffed his advances) and her career really ended in 1992 when she wore a Catwoman costume around town trying unsuccessfully to get the part in Tim Burton's Batman Returns. She's been a staple on the straight-to-video scene and several TV shows recently and actually appeared on CSI, ER, and One Tree Hill last year. It looked like she might be primed for a comeback. What's better for a comeback than rehab?
