Although Alba will soon be taking a break from the business to give birth to her first child with fiancee Cash Warren, it was business as usual for "the eye" pleasing actress as she recently sat down with the press in L.A. to talk about The Eye, life as a mom-to-be, what she does in her spare time, her recent trip to Sundance, and what she's got on the horizon if the writers finally reach a deal.
Jessica Alba on how things have changed since becoming pregnant:
"I’m tired all the time... [laughs]... and that’s normal. And I guess I need to eat more often than any time before. I used to go for long days and forget to eat and grab a meal at night usually, but now it’s every couple of hours. I turn into Satan if I don’t eat something."
Alba on the added responsibility and whether she's changed emotionally:
"Yeah, the way I approach things and see things. I definitely look at outside, the world and the media and that kind of stuff and think, ‘How will this affect this little person who’s going to be in my life and what does that mean?’ When you’re in the world and you’re a grown-up, that’s one thing, but when you think about how it’s going to affect a little mind, it’s completely different. So yeah, I also think about how I’m a lot more - I’ve always been [aware], as much as I can have a green mentality about stuff and I’m a lot more eco-conscience."
On whether she'll follow in the footsteps of Angelina Jolie as a parent:
"You know, I’ve always been involved in social issues, certainly in the inner city and educational mentor programs and giving people who don’t work growing up in environments where education or even individuality is sort of fostered. It’s kind of like - deal with life and survive-mentality, and if you can rise above it, great. And I’ve always been involved in that stuff and especially if I have time off I can get more involved. It’s important to expose my children to less privileged life because I think a lot of kids can live in a bubble."
Alba on whether she'll continue her acting career:
"Of course. I think it’s important for me to still be your own person. I don’t know if it would be healthy if you lose yourself completely. I think kids appreciate it if you still move on with your individuality and you’re living the example that you want your kids to emulate."
Jessica Alba on why she chose to do The Eye:
"I love the horror genre. I really do. The first movie that kind of sticks in my head was the first Friday the 13th... I like horror movies, but I like more psychological and ghost movies. I'm not really into the movies where people get tortured or their bodies get ripped apart or anything like that."
Alba and how she feels about Asian horror movies:
"I like The Ring, I like The Grudge, those two I liked a lot and I really liked this movie, the original. The way they approach the film is different because ghosts are more accepted in the culture, so they are a little bit different and they are a little quieter in the way of filmmaking, and you see it more. In the Western [culture] ghost stories are a taboo. It's crazy, ghosts. And for me, if you don't see it, the more you don't see the better. So I think that's kind of how we tried to approach it. Obviously you see a lot of things through Sydney's perspective, which I think helps the audience kind of feel her handicap and her vision. And you really go on that journey. When you see that guy you are like, ‘Ahh!’ Like, what if you saw that and that would [it] totally freak you out?"
