Watching a full season of Aqua Teen Hunger Force in a small amount of time may actually be harmful to your health. And I mean that as a compliment. How many shows can even make you think, much less warp your mind? After years on the air and a feature film, AQTHF is still one of the most remarkably weird shows on television and watching more than one ten-minute episode consecutively can warp your view of the world. A show where the most normal characters are a talking meatball, shake, and box of fries could be compared to a legal drug. It's so weird that it almost makes you feel high. Take for example the one-two punch of "Dickesode" and "Hand Banana." The first is about a fast food contest where you might win a coupon off a tasty beverage or you might also be chosen to have you dick ripped off. The second features a "Make Your Own Dog" program that doesn't mention that the creature made in your backyard might be a VERY bad dog. They're both hilarious, ridiculous, and they almost make it hard to look at whatever animation you happen to catch next in the same way. That's what's great about Aqua Teen (and most of the great Adult Swim programs) - it destroys everything you expect from animation and turns it into a hand-drawn trip.

Don't start with the fifth season of Aqua Teen Hunger Force. Go back and rent or buy the first four volumes. If you're already a fan, you should be happy to know that the quality of the show didn't dip after the movie. In fact, some of the funniest episodes in the history of the show are on this volume. Like the other four seasons, the picture is remarkably good, with bright colors and clear, well-defined lines. And the special features fit the tone of the show perfectly with their unpredictability. In fact, some are must-sees for AQTHF fans. The best is "Aqua Teen Hunger Force Responds to the Critics," a series of short commercials for the movie in which characters read quotes from negative reviews and then make fun of the critic who wrote them. It's hilarious. Other special features like "Tera Patrick Eats a Hot Dog" are pretty self-explanatory. A commentary or behind-the-scenes featurette might have been nice but seeing a grown man dressed like Space Ghost at the premiere of the Aqua Teen movie more than makes up for it.

There's a reason Aqua Teen Hunger Force is only 10-11 minutes long on Adult Swim. It works best in small doses. But if you're the kind of person who doesn't believe in such a thing as restraint, now you can have it all - five volumes of Aqua Teen Hunger Force with hours of mind-bending animation. Just don't say we didn't warn you.
