A couple of weeks ago on January 24, a number of North American and European outlets - IGN, ComingSoon, Movieweb, AOL, and more - and journalists (some friends of ours) were on hand for the official press conference surrounding the title announcement of the new Bond film Quantum of Solace held at Pinewood Studios. Although initial fan reaction to the title was mixed, the dust has settled and now Bond fans everywhere can look forward to the second installment in the franchise that features Daniel Craig, which hits theaters on November 7 Reports and photos surrounding Quantum of Solace have been hitting the net in recent weeks, and it was obviously a great score for the fan friendly outlets that attended the press conference, which featured director Marc Forster, producers Michael G. Wilson and Barbara Broccoli, and veteran British actress Judi Dench.
In case you haven't already plugged yourself into the most recent activity from the Quantum of Solace set, in an effort to gather as much information from around the web on the recent activity surrounding the film, we've aggregated a number of highlights from both the several B-roll videos that have appeared online and some from the press conference, which has also been making the public rounds on YouTube.
In addition to the press conference, IGN Movies (UK) elaborated on the production via their own set report from Pinewood, which features talk of Daniel Craig in the new MI6 building and Bond caught in a snow storm, plus footage of Bond in action on-set during the filming of a specific action sequence. Also, IGN also posted a preview of their interview with Daniel Craig who dishes on everything from the new title and the success of Casino Royale to the stunts in Quantum and what fans can expect. While visiting the set of Quantum of Solace, the outlets were given full access to the cast for interviews that will be hitting the net at a later date prior to the film's release in November. If you're looking to stay on top of Quantum of Solace as the production picks up speed, be sure to stop by IGN, ComingSoon, and Movieweb in the coming weeks to get the latest info from across the pond on Bond.
From our own round-up on the recent happenings from Pinewood, here's a look at some of the highlight quotes from the recently released B-roll footage and press conference that can found around the web.
PRESS CONFERENCE HIGHLIGHTS: (January 24)
[Full videos can be found at ComingSoon, Movieweb, IGN, and AOL]
Producer Michael G. Wilson on the new title:
"We thought it was an intriguing title and referenced what’s happening to Bond and what happens in this film."
Wilson on the sequel in relation to the entire franchise:
"It’s true, this is a direct sequel and it takes place literally an hour after the last film ended. But there were always references in the Bond stories of films, of one blending into another - From Russia With love, there’s a reference to Dr. No, so there’s been that - partly series, partly sequel. This is unique in that sense, but it’s not too far off."
Producer Barbara Broccoli on whether Quantum is a revenge movie:
"No, it’s not right. It’s not a revenge movie, it’s much more complicated than that. But it is a follow-on from Casino Royale and it has lots of action, but it also deals with the inner turmoil that Bond is facing from Casino Royale."
Director Marc Forster on working on the franchise and Daniel Craig:
"James Bond is a part of film history and in that sense I think it’s something really exciting and interesting to be a part of that. I was in that sense very intrigued and Daniel Craig took the franchise in a different direction and he’s such a superb actor that I thought there was a possibility to explore something with him, which I was interested in."
Judi Dench on returning as M to make another movie:
"It’s very good to be back indeed. For me the most exciting thing is when you do one part - if you get asked to do something which is the kind of antithesis of that part. And after I just played in Cranford, you couldn’t get further away from the character I played in Cranford to being M again. So it’s very nice to be back."
Dench on the universal appeal of James Bond:
"The thing about James Bond... isn’t it that it appeals to an incredible cross-section of people? The appeal for my grandson’s friends is fantastic and probably their fathers, too. It is a terribly appealing character and you want to know about him."
