Marisa Tomei To Play Stripper
February 12, 2008
As anyone who saw Before The Devil Knows You're Dead can tell you, Marisa Tomei is completely fearless when it comes to on-screen nudity, which should help her play a stripper in Darren Aronofsky's The Wrestler. The writer/director of Requiem For a Dream and The Fountain has cast Marisa Tomei in his newest film, according to this week's Variety. Based on her work in Before the Devil Knows You're Dead, she's in truly spectacular shape and seems perfectly cast.
In The Wrestler, Mickey Rourke will play the lead character, a guy who hangs up his tights and moves in with his stripper girlfriend and her son. According to Empire, he's then tempted to return to the ring and deal with an old nemesis. The Wrestler is currently filming in New York and New Jersey and, hopefully, won't have as much of a complicated production as the infamous road The Fountain took to the big screen. Mickey Rourke and Marisa Tomei? Doesn't that sound perfect?
Darren Aronofsky directed Pi, Requiem For a Dream, and The Fountain and Mickey Rourke has undergone a career renaissance since his comeback in Sin City. The 43-year-old Marisa Tomei broke through on A Different World in the '80s and then won an Oscar for My Cousin Vinny. Since then, Tomei appeared in Chaplin, Untamed Heart, The Paper, Only You, Four Rooms, What Women Want, In the Bedroom, Anger Management, Alfie, Rescue Me, and Wild Hogs. She has also finished shooting War, Inc. with John and Joan Cusack and is reportedly still working on The Night Job with, believe it or not, Mickey Rourke.
