Amy Winehouse Appeal Postponed
February 27, 2008

Troubled singer and recent Grammy winner Amy Winehouse has had her lawyer's request to delay her February 29th hearing in Norway granted. People confirmed with Ole Kvelstad that the appeal in the fine of marijuana possession has been postponed. The hearing was delayed not because of recent trouble with Amy Winehouse herself but with her husband Blake Fielder-Civil, who is currently in jail in London because of charges related to a pub fight. Kvelstad said to People, "The [Norway] court says that all parties must appear in person before the court, and the British police haven't made arrangement for one party to appear."

Amy Winehouse, Blade Fielder-Civil, and Alex Foden (Amy's hairdresser) were arrested in Bergen, Norway on October 18th and charged with marijuana possession. They were released the next morning and paid fines of $715 a piece and they're now regretting have paid those fines and that's what they're appealing. Winehouse says that she was deceived into signing papers to pay the fines, which is the equivalent of pleading guilty in Norway. The police claim that she had an English translator and that she understood what she was doing when she signed the papers and paid the fines. The court will decide. But not this week.

The delay comes because Blake Fielder-Civil will be in a court on Friday in London at Snaresbrook Crown Court to enter a plea to a charge of perverting the course of justice. He reportedly attacked a pub landlord and then tried to conspire to get the victim to withdraw as a witness at the trial. The drama of Amy Winehouse's life continues.
