Showtime to Make Dexter Game
March 5, 2008

Big news today from Showtime. The network announced that they're in a production agreement with Marc Ecko Entertainment to make a video game based on one of the more unusual and controversial shows in recent memory, Dexter. The Emmy and Golden Globe-winning Showtime series, which has recently been running its first season repeats in slightly edited versions on CBS, will now be developed for interactive media with Marc Ecko and Showtime in close collaboration to guarantee that the show is faithful to the spirit of the show. Very interesting news. We imagine it will be something like Hitman, with Dexter having to off the bad guys and not get caught doing so. Don't expect a shoot-em-up.

The show stars Michael C. Hall as Dexter Morgan, a forensic blood splatter expert for the Miami Dade Police Department. As he watches clearly guilty men go free, the serial killer side of Dexter comes to life and he gets his vengeance. He's a serial killer with a moral code. Marc Fernandez, Vice President of Marc Ecko Entertainment, said in the press release, "DEXTER is the extremely rare TV show with enough layers of action and tension to translate perfectly into a compelling videogame. Our game designers, writers, and artists are going to give Dexter’s morally complex world the kind of interactivity that gamers will love."

Len Fogge, Executive Vice President, Marketing, Digital Media and Research at Showtime Networks, said, "DEXTER is one of the most popular shows on SHOWTIME with a particular strong fan base among gamers. It’s a very logical jump to create a game with the web site IGN.com naming it 2007’s ‘Best Television Program’. We’re confident Marc Ecko Entertainment’s team has the unique talents to take Dexter to the interactive space in the right way."

Marc Ecko Entertainment handled the production side of 2005’s Getting Up and is currently working on an untitled project with developer Human Head. The Dexter game is in pre-production and Showtime Networks and Marc Ecko Entertainment are in talks with a handful of developers to bring the game to life. More details will be announced in upcoming months.
