CBS Cancels Jericho, Thanks Fans
March 21, 2008
Although die-hard fans tried to save Jericho from the post-apocalyptic network wasteland in 2007, they still couldn't stop the series from becoming nothing more than another memory in television history in 2008. Despite being on the network chopping block for most of its run, Jericho couldn't muster the Nielsen numbers CBS was looking for to make it a long term hit and won't be coming back as CBS confirmed on Friday.
Fans of the show, while justifiably disappointed, shouldn't feel too bad the show finally met its end since many-a-promising-series never got the same shot at longevity that Jericho received over the past couple of years. Jericho fans can now mark March 25 on their calendars as the series will close its doors on Tuesday night with the seventh episode, completing the seven-episode order for the 2007/2008 season.
Although it looks like just another case of a network numbers game in the end, CBS obviously gave Jericho a shot by beefing up the cast and giving fans seven more episodes of their favorite show when the series appeared all but done in 2007.
To acknowledge and show its appreciation for the show's loyal fan base, on Friday CBS issued the following official statement:
"The March 25th episode of Jericho will be the series finale. Without question, there are passionate viewers watching this program; we simply wish there were more. We thank an engaged and spirited fan base for keeping the show alive this long, and an outstanding team of producers, cast and crew that went through creative hoops to deliver a compelling, high quality second season. We have no regrets bringing the show back for a second try. We listened to our viewers, gave the series an opportunity to grow, and the producers put a great story on the screen. We're proud of everyone's efforts."
