Prison Break Gets Fourth Season
March 25, 2008

We just got word from Fox that Prison Break has been officially picked up for a fourth season. The action-packed series starring Dominic Purcell and Wentworth Miller as Lincoln Burrows and Michael Scofield, respectively. The brothers have been on the run for three years on Fox Monday nights and have had their ups and downs in the ratings and critically, but they always perform well in the key demos and Fox needs a hit in the action department with Jack Bauer and 24 taking off the entire 2008 season.

Prison Break ranked number one in its time period among adults 18-34 and number two in other key demos and it ranked in the Top 25 programs overall for adults 18-34, men 18-49, and men 18-34. Prison Break was actually in the top twenty for men 18-34, one of the key demographics for advertisers. Overall, Prison Break was down to number 73 overall with an average of 8 million viewers a week, down from the 9 million plus in the first two years.

Prison Break is an Adelstein/Parouse Production in association with 20th Century Fox Television and was created by Paul T. Scheuring. The show is executive produced by Scheuring, Matt Olmstead, Brett Ratner, Marty Adelstein, Dawn Parouse, Kevin Hooks, and Neal H. Moritz and co-executive produced by Zack Estrin and Nick Santora. The show has something of a revolving-door cast except for the primary leads but the first three seasons also featured Marshall Allman, Amaury Nolasco, Robert Knepper, and Wade Williams. There's no clear guide as to who will be on season four or even where it will take place but production will start in Los Angeles in May.

At the end of season three, the core characters are very divided with Michael on the road seeking revenge, Lincoln with his son, and T-Bag still in Sona, the Panamian jail that was the centerpiece of the third season. This season was supposed to consist of 22 episodes but was cut down to 13 because of the strike. It's unclear if the fourth season will really be "Season 3.5" and the writers will pick up plot threads they intended to complete in episodes 14-22 of their original plans for the junior year of Prison Break.
