Clive Davis Changes Positions with BMG
April 18, 2008

The winds of change have caught up to legendary music exec Clive Davis as sources report that the 76 year old music mogul and mentor has now shifted positions from CEO (Chief Executive Officer) of BMG Label Group to the label's parent company as CCO (Chief Creative Officer) for Sony BMG Worldwide. Has Clive been bumped and demoted or has Davis been forced to make a horizontal move? Whatever the case may be, it appears that the unstoppable force known simply as "change" could be the factor for the move.

According to Reuters and its Media File blog, it appears a window of opportunity to shake things up presented itself after former BMG president and longtime Davis associate, Charles Goldstuck, parted ways with the company. As a result, some sources and insiders are speculating that Goldstuck's exit paved the way for the Davis move.

The Reuters story goes on the say that "Barry Weiss, a long-time Zomba label exec, will fill Davis’ shoes. He most recently has overseen the careers of Justin Timberlake, Britney Spears and R. Kelly."

We all know that change is inevitable, but Clive Davis is one of the most resilient executives in music history. We're sure Clive will be fine in whatever position he's in.
