May 2, 2008
After making worldwide headlines for his energetic couch-hopping appearance on The Oprah Winfrey Show back in 2005, actor Tom Cruise, who is reportedly in talks with Paramount for a fourth Mission Impossible movie, greeted Oprah on Friday for another interview at his mountaintop home in Telluride, Colorado. According to several sources, including Reuters, Cruise discussed a variety of topics with Oprah that included his marriage to actress Katie Holmes, their daughter Suri, his headline-grabbing comments about Brooke Shields in 2006, the tolerance for religion and his belief in God, his relationship with former wife and actress Nicole Kidman, and his famous floor slide in the film Risky Business, which is now being celebrated after 25 years since the film’s release.
According to Reuters, when asked about reports that questioned the authenticity of his relationship with wife Katie Holmes, Cruise dismissed the speculation as "laughable" and untrue. When asked by Oprah about his couch-hopping incident on her show in 2005, which was sparked by the actor’s excitement over his new relationship with Holmes, Cruise reaffirmed that the energy and feelings her felt were real and how he felt at the time.
Cruise went on to address the words he had for Brooke Shields surrounding the functionality of psychology in a previous interview with Matt Lauer by saying that the words came out wrong and that he and Shields are better friends now. The Mission Impossible star also clear some of the air surround his faith, Scientology, by letting viewers know that his religion is about being tolerant of others’ beliefs, designed to help people, and that he does indeed believe in God.
