James Clement and Alexis Jones on Surviving Micronesia
by Troy Rogers
Unlike any other season of Survivor, Micronesia: Fans vs Favorites has been plagued by injuries. To some degree, it makes Michael's stumbled into the fire in the Australian Outback in the second season look like a walk in the park... if you can call it that? Last week the blindsiding continued as Alexis had her torch extinguished while James turned up at Tribal Council with I.V. pole in tow after being holed up in the hospital with a potentially lethal infection. The day after last week's episode, The Deadbolt caught up with both Alexis and James for an exclusive chat to learn more about what led to the shocking cast-off and how James was doing following his stint in a Micronesian hospital
THE DEADBOLT: So, James, how’s the finger?
JAMES CLEMENT: The finger is good. A lot of antibiotics and being back and forth with so-called therapy and now I’m alright.
THE DEADBOLT: What did they actually do to you in the hospital when you were over there?
JAMES: I had two X-rays and a couple of blood tests to make sure the infection hadn’t spread to my system. I had to get an I.V. three times a day with a bunch of different types of antibiotics and therapy, believe it or not. I had to do finger drills.
THE DEADBOLT: During this season, since injuries have been dogging the tribes, what types of warnings did you guys get regarding injuries and infections when you first arrived?
JAMES: I mean, I live in that type of climate with humidity, a subtropical climate. So I always know infection is always out there and I always knew that that is probably the worst thing that can happen to you, because it’ll take hold and it’ll be bad. So they warned us about it and I wasn’t surprised that that actually did happen, especially being it was so damp and it was humid the entire time.
THE DEADBOLT: After watching Ozzy and Jason go down with immunity idols, do you feel a little bit better about what happened to you and your immunities last season?
JAMES: Not so much.
THE DEADBOLT: It doesn’t take the sting out of it at all?
JAMES: I mean, Jason was pretty much - run, game on. I don’t know what Natalie told him, and I’m gonna find out one of these days, but she must have promised him the world and the stars and everything else because he believed everything this girl was saying. I didn’t have that problem, that wasn’t my thing. Ozzy, he was a little bit too confident in his positioning. I mean, I hadn’t had that problem either. I pretty much had a bad day and wasn’t paying attention. If I would’ve been paying attention to all of the signs out there, I would’ve been alright. But yeah, it was kind of reminiscent of what happened to me, but not so much.
