Exclusive: Parvati Shallow Walks Away a Winner in Micronesia
by Troy Rogers
When the season kicked off for Survivor Micronesia: Fans vs Favorites, the early odds favored the survivors from years gone by. As Micronesia evolved into one of the best seasons ever in the history of Survivor, filled with a slew of injuries and blindsides, the fans of the tribe became formidable opponents as they quickly adjusted to the scheming way of life on the island. In the end, after voting off all of the guys and fending off both Cirie and Natalie in the final two Tribal Councils, California nature lover and former Cook Island favorite Parvati Shallow walked away as the sole survivor of Survivor Micronesia: Fans vs Favorites.
The day after Jeff Probst read the final votes and announced Parvati the winner in NYC, The Deadbolt caught up with the lovely Californian boxing knockout for an exclusive chat to find out how it feels to win Survivor, how she avoided severe injury, what type of food she craved while on the island, and what she's going to do with her newly acquired million.
THE DEADBOLT: What are your plans for the $1 million?
PARVATI SHALLOW: I don’t know yet. I just want to keep working and building up that charity I’ve been working with, the boxing charity, "Knockouts for Girls," and just try to gain more awareness for that and get people involved.
THE DEADBOLT: On top of winning, how does it feel to be a part of Survivor history with all of the blindsides?
PARVATI: Oh, it’s awesome. I mean, we worked our butts off. Those girls that I was with were brilliant strategists. Cirie is amazing, Amanda is the most fantastic manipulator, and Natalie can sell ice to an Eskimo. It was just great being able to work with them and being able to pull off some of those shady blindsides was fantastic.
THE DEADBOLT: How much did the thought of a "final two" play on your mind?
PARVATI: It was awful. I mean, honestly, I didn’t think it was going to happen. Then when it happened we were so sad because we faught so hard to get there and we did everything together to get there. So I think we were all very upset that that happened, that it was a final two. We didn’t realize that was going to happen until Jeff didn’t say, "Hey, this is as far as you can make it in the game."
THE DEADBOLT: There were a lot of injuries this season. Back when you smashed your lip, how did you avoid infection?
PARVATI: I didn’t bust it open, it was just a big bruise. It lasted forever and it was hideous.
THE DEADBOLT: How long did it take to heal?
PARVATI: It was purple for probably two weeks, I don’t know. I didn’t have a mirror so I didn’t know if it was gone or not. I kept asking James and he said, "Oh, your pretty lips," and I was like, "Shut up, idiot."
THE DEADBOLT: What type of food did you crave the entire time you were there?
PARVATI: Quesadillas. I wanted cheese quesadillas so bad. All I wanted was cheese.
THE DEADBOLT: Even though you won, what did you dislike the most this time around?
PARVATI: I didn’t like the island, I hated it. It was gross. There were rats and bats and it was raining all of the time. It was pretty horrible.
