Production on Biel Flick Shuts Down Again
May 16, 2008
Can there ever be a David O. Russell flick without behind-the-scenes drama? George Clooney notoriously fought with the director on the set of Three Kings and if you haven't heard Lily Tomlin go nuts on the set of I Heart Huckabee's, do yourself a favor and search it out now. The latest Russell movie, Nailed with Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal has fallen victim to an unusual set of problems, financial woes with below-the-line crews, who Variety reports refused to work this Thursday. The members of the International Alliance of Theatrical & Stage Employees were ordered not to show up to the South Carolina set this week after they weren't paid. The film is being financed by Capitol Films and they were not available for comment but Variety reports that production is expected to pick up again today.
Last week, the Screen Actors Guild ordered their members not to participate in the Nailed shoot because not enough money had been deposited into the SAG accounts to pay the actors. Nailed production was shut down last Friday and resumed this Monday. Nailed only started shooting on April 15th and was supposed to wrap in about a month. Along with Jessica Biel and Jake Gyllenhaal, Catherine Keener, James Marsden, and Tracy Morgan were set to star.
According to Variety, the Biel flick was shut down last week but David Bergstein, the head of Capitol Films, claims that his company is on fine financial footing. He blames a bridge financier for last week's shutdown and claims that he's found another bridge financier to make sure the project goes through. He told Variety, "We had fully escrowed the salary of the two lead and left significant deposits with SAG. This dispute was something beyond money. It was to do with the structure of the financing."
