Elizabeth Berkley and Briana Evigan Added to Donnie Darko Sequel
May 30, 2008
As the sequel to the popular cult film Donnie Darko ramps up, two more cast members have been added to the production of "Samantha D" or "S. Darko", whichever one the title may or may not turn out to be. Hollywood Reporter reports that former Showgirl Elizabeth Berkley and Briana Evigan, daughter of actor Greg Evigan, have joined Gossip Girl's Ed Westwick, The Chumscrubber actor Justin Chatwin, and original Donnie Darko actress Daveigh Chase on the sequel, which is already underway in Utah.
As for the story, HR reveals, "The story, set seven years after the first film, follows Donnie Darko's sister, Samantha, who, in dealing with her broken family, flees town with her best friend (Evigan) when they are plagued by bizarre visions."
Will the sequel be as bizarre and cool as the original without Donnie in the mix? If Berkley's character is any indication, there's certainly potential for weirdness, as the former Showgirls actress will be playing a sketchy drug addict turned Jesus zealot whose obsessed with a preacher and hell bent on ridding the world of sin.
